Details Itinerary
Upon arrival at the airport (either Entebbe in Uganda or Kigali in Rwanda), you’ll be warmly welcomed by your guide. From there, enjoy a scenic drive through rolling hills, tea and banana plantations, and vibrant local villages as you make your way toward the rainforest. Settle into your eco-lodge or safari camp nestled near the park, and relax for the evening while taking in the sounds of the forest and the fresh, cool air of the highlands.
After an early breakfast, you’ll head into the forest for your chimpanzee trekking adventure. Guided by experienced rangers, you’ll track these intelligent primates as they move swiftly through the trees, often vocalizing and interacting in fascinating ways. The trek offers a chance to also spot other primates like colobus monkeys and L’Hoest’s monkeys, as well as a variety of birds and butterflies. In the afternoon, take an optional nature walk, explore a local wetland (like Bigodi in Uganda), or experience a cultural visit to a nearby village.
Today, after breakfast, you’ll depart for the gorilla trekking base, traveling through beautiful landscapes dotted with farms, crater lakes, and dramatic hills. Whether you’re headed to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga National Park, or Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, the journey is rich with photo opportunities and cultural encounters. Upon arrival, check into your lodge and receive a briefing about the next day’s trek. Spend the evening at leisure, enjoying the mountain views and preparing for your gorilla adventure.
This is the day you’ve been waiting for — your gorilla trekking experience! After an early start and a short briefing, you’ll enter the dense forest with your guides in search of a habituated mountain gorilla family. The trek can take several hours, but once you find the gorillas, you’ll be allowed to spend a full hour with them — observing, photographing, and quietly taking in this deeply emotional and awe-inspiring encounter. After your trek, return to the lodge for lunch and a well-earned rest, or opt for a community walk to learn about local traditions and conservation efforts.
After a relaxed breakfast, begin your journey back to the airport for your onward flight. Depending on your location and timing, you may have opportunities for optional stops such as a visit to the Equator in Uganda or the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda. As your safari comes to an end, you’ll leave with unforgettable memories of close primate encounters, lush forests, and the incredible warmth of East African hospitality.
