Your adventure begins with an early morning pick-up from either Entebbe or Kampala, followed by a scenic 5-6 hour drive to Kibale National Park, the primate capital of the world. Along the way, you will pass through lush countryside, tea plantations, and rolling hills, with a stop in Fort Portal for lunch. Upon arrival at your lodge near the park, you will have time to relax and soak in the serene rainforest surroundings. In the late afternoon, you can opt for a guided nature walk at Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run reserve known for its rich birdlife and diverse primates. Afterward, return to the lodge for dinner, a briefing on the next day’s trekking experience, and an overnight stay.
After an early breakfast, you will head to Kibale National Park headquarters for registration and a briefing before embarking on your chimpanzee trekking experience. With the guidance of experienced rangers, you will venture deep into the tropical rainforest in search of chimpanzees, encountering other primates such as black-and-white colobus monkeys and red colobus monkeys along the way. Once you locate a chimpanzee troop, you will have an unforgettable hour observing their behavior in their natural habitat. After the trek, return to the lodge for lunch, followed by an optional cultural visit to a nearby community, where you can interact with the Batooro or Bakiga people and learn about their traditions. Alternatively, you can explore the beautiful crater lakes region on a guided nature walk. The evening will be spent at the lodge, where you can enjoy dinner and a relaxing atmosphere.
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before starting your journey back to Kampala or Entebbe. If time allows, you may opt for a short nature walk or a second chimpanzee trekking session before departure. The return trip includes a stop for lunch in Fort Portal or Mubende, with stunning views along the way. You will arrive in Kampala or Entebbe in the afternoon, concluding your adventure with a drop-off at your hotel or the airport for your onward journey.
